Feminized Marijuana Seeds

Showing 49–60 of 69 results

Quick answerFeminized marijuana seeds are bred to grow female plants, the only ones that produce the resinous buds growers harvest. Breeders make them by pollinating a female with pollen from another female that was coaxed into making pollen. Expect nearly all female plants, which saves space, time and the work of culling males.

What are feminized seeds?

Cannabis plants are usually either male or female. Only females grow the sticky flowers people harvest. Males make pollen sacs, and if they open in your grow space, your females put their energy into seeds instead of buds.

Regular seeds split roughly 50/50 between the sexes. To make feminized seeds, a breeder sprays a chosen female with a silver solution (colloidal silver or silver thiosulfate) that makes her grow pollen sacs. That pollen carries only female genetics, so the seeds it produces grow females too. Our glossary covers feminized seeds and regular seeds in more depth.

How to grow feminized seeds well

Feminized plants grow like any other cannabis, but stress is the one thing to manage closely. Heavy stress can push a female to grow a few male flowers, known as hermaphrodite traits, and stray pollen can seed your buds.

  • Keep the dark period dark. Photoperiod plants flower on 12 hours of light and 12 hours of total darkness. Check your tent for light leaks with the lights off.
  • Hold steady temperatures. Aim for 70-85°F (21-29°C) with lights on, and avoid night drops of more than about 15°F (8°C).
  • Train in veg, not flower. Topping and low-stress training work best before you flip to 12/12.
  • Inspect weekly in bloom. Look for small yellow banana shapes, called nanners, between buds and pinch them off early.

Feminized seeds FAQ

Are feminized seeds 100% female?

No seed is guaranteed 100% female. Well-made feminized seeds produce female plants in the vast majority of cases, but genetics and heavy stress can still cause an occasional plant to grow male flowers. Check plants weekly once flowering starts so you can catch problems before pollen spreads.

Do feminized seeds yield more than regular seeds?

Plant for plant, a female from feminized seed and a female from regular seed of the same strain yield about the same. The gain is efficiency. Every feminized plant you start can produce buds, so your canopy fills with harvestable plants instead of males you remove partway through.

Can I make seeds from feminized plants?

You can, but it takes extra steps. With no males available, you would need to reverse a female with a silver solution to collect pollen, and the offspring can vary. Most home growers who want to breed their own seeds start with regular seeds, which produce true males and females.

Are feminized seeds more likely to turn hermaphrodite?

Well-bred feminized lines are generally stable. Hermaphrodite traits most often appear under stress, such as light leaks, heat above 90°F (32°C), root damage or leaving plants far past maturity. Good genetics plus a steady environment keeps the risk low.

Should I choose feminized photoperiod or autoflower seeds?
Choose feminized photoperiods for control over plant size, longer veg time for training and the option to take clones. Choose feminized autoflowers for a faster, smaller plant that flowers on its own. Our autoflower vs feminized guide compares them side by side.
