Gelato 41 came out of a run of Sunset Sherbet crossed with Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, bred in the San Francisco Bay Area in the mid-2010s. Several numbered seedlings from that pairing were kept, and number 41 stood out for heavier trichome coverage and a sharper, gassier edge than its siblings.
Each parent leaves a clear mark. Sunset Sherbet supplies the fruity, creamy depth and the purple and violet hues that show up late in bloom. Thin Mint Cookies contributes compact structure, dense calyxes and much of the strength. Together they produce rounded, sticky buds that look sugar-dusted when fully ripe.
Its bigger story is what came after. Gelato 41 became a favorite parent for breeders, and well-known strains such as Gushers, Gelonade and Jealousy carry its genes. These feminized seeds are bred to produce female plants, so each one you pop is headed for flower.
People commonly describe Gelato 41 as a two-layer experience: a warm, creative mood on top and smooth body ease underneath. Most reports put the effects at two to three hours.
A cheerful head change that makes conversation and ideas flow.
Focus stays usable while a relaxed feeling settles into the body.
The session tapers gently, and moderate doses rarely feel couch-locking.
Reported THC of 20-24%: newer consumers should start low and wait before taking more. Dry mouth and dry eyes are the most common reported downsides, and some people report feeling anxious at high doses. General reports, not medical guidance.
Sweet sherbet cream and ripe berry open the nose, followed by a doughy cookie note and a sharp streak of gas on the exhale. Expect a strong smell from week five of flower onward, so run a carbon filter.
Gives the finish its gassy, peppery bite.
LimoneneCitrus, sweet fruitBrightens the sherbet and berry top notes.
HumuleneWood, earth, hopsAdds the earthy, doughy depth under the sweetness.
Harvest when most trichomes are cloudy, then dry for 10-14 days around 60°F and 60% RH. A slow cure keeps the creamy, gassy profile from flattening.
Rated moderate. Plants are sturdy and branch well; the main job is moving enough air through the dense canopy in late flower.
Gelato 41 grows with classic cookie-family habits: medium height, stout stems and strong side branching that fills a tent quickly. Indoors it usually stays between 3 and 5 feet, so a 4×4 ft space handles one or two plants comfortably. Feminized phenotypes tend to be uniform, which makes canopy management easier.
Because it branches so readily, Gelato 41 responds well to topping twice in veg and then tying the laterals outward. Strip the small lower shoots before the flip, a technique called lollipopping, so energy goes to the top sites. Under LED, 750-950 PPFD in bloom is a good working range.
Medium feeding is enough. Taper nitrogen after the third week of flower and watch leaf tips for signs of nutrient burn, which this cultivar shows quickly when pushed hard.
Most plants are ready 8 to 9 weeks after switching to 12/12. Check the trichomes with a loupe: mostly milky heads keep the effect upbeat, while a share of amber pushes it toward heavier body calm.
A common indoor timeline. You set the veg length; the 8-9 week bloom comes from the genetics.
Damp paper towel, 75-80°F
Low-intensity light, 65% RH
Top twice, then spread branches
8-9 weeks under 12/12
Slow dry, then cure in jars
Gelato 41 is listed for outdoor growing and does well where summers are warm and autumns stay dry. In full sun, plants commonly reach 5 to 7 feet and can produce roughly 18 to 21 ounces each, finishing in early October at most US latitudes. Move plants outside once your last frost has passed and nights stay above about 50°F.
The early October finish is a real advantage in shorter-season states, since it beats much of the cold, wet weather that arrives later in the month. Dense buds still trap moisture, so in humid areas prune the interior for airflow, shake off morning dew, and have a cover ready for rainy spells. For planting dates by zone, see our outdoor planting guide.
Home grow rules differ by state, including whether it is legal at all and how many plants are allowed. Check marijuana laws by state before you plant.
Warm days and a dry fall match the conditions this strain prefers.
Low humidity and cool nights bring out color, and early October beats most hard frosts.
An early October finish usually lands before the coldest, wettest stretch of fall.
Late-summer humidity can cause mold in dense buds, so thin the plant and watch closely.
Heat is no problem, but steady humidity means airflow and rain cover matter.
Gelato 41 is a balanced hybrid that leans slightly toward the indica side in structure. It grows medium height with sturdy branches, and its effects pair a cheerful, creative mood with smooth body relaxation.
Our supplier reports THC of 20-24%. That is strong enough for experienced consumers to enjoy while still being approachable at small doses, though actual results depend on phenotype, growing conditions and harvest timing.
Indoors, most plants finish 8 to 9 weeks after switching the lights to 12/12. Outdoor plants in the US are usually ready in early October.
A well-trained indoor canopy can give roughly 1.3 to 1.6 ounces per square foot. Outdoors in full sun, plants can produce about 18 to 21 ounces each, depending on season length and care.
It is rated moderate, so a beginner with some reading under their belt can manage it. The plant is vigorous and forgiving; the main skills needed are keeping flowering humidity at 40-50% and avoiding heavy feeding.
Expect creamy sherbet and sweet berry first, then a doughy cookie note and a gassy, peppery finish. Caryophyllene, limonene and humulene are the terpenes most often reported.
Outdoors it does best in sunny, dry regions such as inland California, the Southwest and the Colorado Front Range. In humid parts of the Northeast and Southeast it still finishes, but airflow and rain protection become important.
It is the number of the seedling that was selected from the original Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Cookies run. Breeders numbered the plants they kept, and number 41 was chosen for its frost and gassy edge.
