Chocolate mint, grape candy and a slow, cozy body melt. Lava Cake is a compact, indica-leaning dessert strain that wraps up in 8-9 weeks.
In stock. Order before 1pm CT and it ships today.
Lava Cake belongs to the modern wave of dessert strains, and like its name suggests, it leans rich and sweet. It is widely documented as a cross of Thin Mint GSC and Grape Pie, two parents that each bring something easy to spot in the finished flower.
Thin Mint GSC, a cookie-family selection, supplies the dense structure, heavy resin and the cool, chocolate-mint side of the aroma. Grape Pie contributes candied grape sweetness and a strong tendency toward purple coloring. Put together, they produce a strain that smells like a molten chocolate dessert with a fruity twist and has a calm, body-forward personality.
The indica side, about 70% of its makeup, shapes the plant: short and bushy with tight node spacing and compact, golf-ball-sized buds packed with trichomes. That makes it one of the easier dessert strains to fit into a small tent. These feminized seeds are bred so that each one grows into a flowering female plant.
People commonly describe a fast, gentle mood lift that gives way to a warm, slow-spreading body relaxation. Expect it to last around two to three hours.
A light, positive shift in mood that arrives within minutes.
Relaxation spreads from the shoulders down and settles in deep.
Best saved for a slow night in; larger amounts lean drowsy.
Reported THC tops out near 24%, so begin with a modest amount. Dry mouth and dry eyes are the most common complaints, and some people report anxiety or dizziness when they take too much. General reports, not medical guidance.
The jar opens with sweet chocolate and cool mint, then a candied grape note rolls in from the Grape Pie side. On the exhale there is a soft, woody spice that keeps the sweetness from getting cloying.
Adds the warm, spiced depth under the chocolate.
HumuleneWood, herbsGives the finish its dry, earthy, woody edge.
LimoneneCitrus, candyBrightens the grape and sweet top notes.
Dry slowly near 60°F and 60% humidity and cure for at least two weeks. Burp jars daily for the first week so the chocolate-mint aroma stays sharp.
Rated moderate. Its short, bushy shape is easy to manage; the main jobs are opening up the dense canopy and keeping flowering humidity in range.
Lava Cake is a natural fit for small indoor spaces. Plants usually stay between 2 and 4 feet, so even a 2×4 ft tent can hold a productive grow. It is rated moderate: the plant is cooperative, but its bushy habit and dense buds need attention to airflow.
Aim for about 500-700 PPFD in late veg and 700-900 PPFD in flower under LED. Top early, around the fourth or fifth node, then use LST to spread the branches into a wide, flat shape. Clearing small, shaded growth at the bottom with defoliation sends energy to the top sites and improves airflow.
Compact indica-leaning plants often need less food than taller strains. Start on the light side, raise strength only when the plant asks for it, and watch for darker, clawing leaves that signal too much nitrogen.
Plan on 8 to 9 weeks of flower. Check trichomes under magnification: mostly cloudy with a touch of amber suits the relaxed, body-heavy character this strain is grown for.
A short indoor schedule suited to its compact size. Veg length is your call; flowering time comes from the genetics.

Lava Cake prefers a warm, Mediterranean-style climate outdoors. With full sun it grows into a 5 to 7 foot plant and finishes in early to mid October. Move plants outside once the last frost has passed and nights stay above roughly 50°F.
Cool autumn nights can deepen its purple color, but its compact buds do not like moisture. In regions where October brings rain or heavy morning dew, remove crowded inner branches, keep the area around the plant clear for airflow, and cover plants during wet weather. Growers in short or rainy seasons often get better results in a greenhouse. For start dates by region, see our outdoor planting guide.
Home cultivation laws differ from state to state, including how many plants an adult may grow. Review marijuana laws by state before planting.
Warm, dry autumns are the closest match to the Mediterranean climate it prefers.
Low humidity protects the buds, though an early frost at elevation is a risk.
An early-October finish usually works if you plant on time and watch for wet weeks.
Humid late summers and fall rain raise mold risk in its tight buds.
The heat suits it, but heavy humidity makes airflow and pruning essential.
Lava Cake is an indica-dominant hybrid, usually described as about 70% indica and 30% sativa. It grows short and bushy, and its effects lean toward body relaxation after a quick, gentle lift.
Our supplier reports THC of 20-24%. That makes it potent enough for experienced consumers, while newer users should start small. Actual levels vary with phenotype, environment and harvest timing.
Indoors, it typically finishes 8 to 9 weeks after the switch to a 12/12 light schedule. Outdoors in the US, plan for harvest in early to mid October.
A trained indoor canopy can produce roughly 1.3 to 1.6 ounces per square foot. Outdoors, healthy plants in full sun can produce about 16 to 19 ounces each.
It is rated moderate. Its small, manageable size helps newer growers, but the dense canopy needs pruning and steady airflow to keep humidity-related problems away.
Expect sweet chocolate and cool mint up front, followed by candied grape and a woody, peppery finish. Caryophyllene, humulene and limonene are the terpenes most commonly reported.
It does best outdoors in warm, dry regions such as inland California and the Southwest. In the humid Northeast or Gulf Coast, indoor growing or a greenhouse gives more reliable results.
Lava Cake is widely documented as a cross of Thin Mint GSC and Grape Pie. The Thin Mint side brings the dense buds and chocolate-mint aroma, while Grape Pie adds fruity sweetness and purple color.
